Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is a soccer simulation game from Konami, and while it seems like the game hasn't changed much since the previous version, there are some new features that work to make both the graphics and the gameplay better.
One of the most common complaints about Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 was that the action was too simplistic and arcade-style. This has been remedied entirely in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 thanks to the sophisticated yet intuitive manual controls. The game draws a lot of inspiration from other soccer sims like FIFA 12, which helps it produce a more enjoyable experience.
The controls for Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 were completely redesigned for this new version. The improved system has been dubbed the 'PES FullControl' system by the developer. Players can now use the R2 button in conjunction with the first-touch feature, which allows them to take ball control in an instant.
Manual passing and shooting have been added as well. You can modify how much power you use for each shot or pass, and you can select the height you wish to kick the ball. The PES FullControl system also offers the ability to dribble with fine precision. Fans of the series will love how much the gameplay is improved by FullControl, and new players can still get in on the action without experiencing a steep learning curve. Of course, there are still ways to beat the system and score easily.
A notable aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is the level of detail in the likenesses of each player. Not only do the digital versions look like their real-world counterparts, but they have also been programmed to play and behave as their real-world counterparts.
There aren't many soccer simulators out there that come as close to reality as Pro Evolution Soccer 13. The graphics are stunning for their age, and the animations are generally quite impressive. Team entrances are fun and engaging, and every player has an immense level of detail that extends to their clothing and accessories.
In some instance, players in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 are animated patchily. Players turn in unrealistic and clunky ways, and the goalie's actions are stuttered and exaggerated. The goalkeepers supposedly received several upgrades from the previous iteration, but they aren't noticeable if they occurred at all.
One of the saving elements of the animation lies in the Player Impact engine. The physics are surprisingly realistic, and you can easily see how your movement is affected by interacting with other players. Collision animations are still a bit behind benchmark soccer sims like FIFA.
If you were displeased with Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, there's a good chance you'll be satisfied with Pro Evolution Soccer 2013. Of course, the game has room to grow and develop as Konami works to produce even better soccer simulation experiences.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 for Windows is the PC version of Konami's iconic soccer game.
Comparisons with previous iterations of Pro Evolution and its rival Electronic Arts' FIFA series are inevitable. Pro Evolution 2013 feels more like a simulation than the arcade game style of its predecessor, Pro Evolution 2012. It also bears some resemblance to elements of Electronic Arts' FIFA 12.
The 2013 version features Konami's new control system, known as "PES Full Control". This enables players to incorporate more realistic simulations of real life footballing skills like trapping the ball and deft first touches. Manual shooting and passing also makes its debut in the 2013 version, enabling the player to modify the speed and power behind each shot and pass. Dribbling and close control also are enhanced by the "Full Control" feature, which enhances the simulation effect in contrast to previous versions of the game which tended to incorporate more automatic passing and shooting.
Players interested in a tactical approach to their game play may be frustrated by the tactics screen, which is not an improvement on previous Pro Evolution tactic screens. Its animation is not on a par with the rest of the quality of graphics in the game, which detracts from the simulation effect that Konami have obviously striven for. However, some players may derive amusement from the in-game appearance of the coach roaring instructions from a box in the corner of the screen!
Goalkeepers have not improved from previous versions, which takes part of the challenge away for experienced game players. Some types of long passes and set pieces can still break down defenses with apparent ease, which appears to be an ongoing flaw in the game from its inception. Konami claim that the defensive organisation of the team while tracking back in defense or moving forward as a unit has been enhanced, thus allowing the simulation of quicker, more lifelike counter attacking movements.
The 2013 version of the game delivers a more lifelike facial and physical rendition of the actual footballers themselves, as well as realistic animated depictions of their mannerisms while playing and celebrating. On the other hand, this lifelike depiction is somewhat let down by the animations of the players turning while in possession of the ball, which appears cumbersome and unrealistic.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 allows you to play as some of the best soccer teams in the world.
One of the things that you will notice with Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is that it has several similarities to the prior version. However, there are some improvements, including updated uniforms and additional teams added to the roster. These teams are beneficial when it comes to adding new people on the field. The game can be played against the computer or against a person playing online.
Something that can become an interference with the game is that many of the movements are automated. While this can make the game go by faster and save you from controlling some of the players, it can take a lot of the fun out of the game itself. However, there are special moves that you can create with the players so that they steal the ball on the field and make goals.
One of the new features is manual shooting. You are in control of how hard the ball is kicked and where the player kicks the ball. Dribbling the ball has also been improved as there is better control by each player on the field. There are various strategies offered, similar to what you would find in a coach's notes in a real soccer game. You can play in practice mode so that you can work on your moves, or you can play in a career mode to see how far you can get to the tournament. There is a tournament after all of the games have been played that features music and cheering crowds.
Pros
- Updated Teams
- Better controls
- New strategies
Cons
- Not as many features added as possible
- Goalies don't defend as they should
- Graphics could be updated
